The 97% are the people who tell you that you should just study and get a job as though it’s the only path available.

The 97% are the people who tell you that your dreams are too big.

The 97% are the people who say that you need to be lucky to become successful.

The great discrepancy about this is that the people who usually say these things are probably not very successful themselves; and sadly, it’s at least 95% of the world population that thinks this way, consciously or subconsciously. In fact, the figure may be higher at about 97%, since I’ve heard that 3% of the world earns more or an equal amount of money than the other 97% combined. These successful 3% are also the people that the 97% either respect because of their success, or disrespect because of the unreasonable notion that these people had to do something bad to attain their riches. Among these 3% are the famous Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Michael Dell, and the less known few such as Bob Proctor, Brian Tracy and Anthony Robbins.

Let me reason with you as to why the 97% should not be listened to:

It is simple - they only tell you things that dis-empower you; things that make you aim for lower and hardly any encouraging advice for anything.

There are two reasons why these people say these things to you.

These people like to think they ‘know it’

…and disagreeing is a way to reinforce that, since if they disagree they seem to know what you’re talking about. Disagreeing brings about the assumption that they know something because they’d have to be able to see what’s wrong before they can disagree. Disagreeing also brings them some power because it would seem that you are wrong and they are the right ones who are ‘better’ because they are right

These people, more often than not, have genuinely good intentions and want to help you

but there is one problem here; they don’t realize that they’re giving you advice that comes from their flawed perceptions of reality. They associate pain with becoming successful because they think it’s too ‘hard’. When they give you the advice, all they really want to do is help you avoid experiencing that pain. Many times, they tell you that because someone who they think knows better told them so, and they immediately just accept the belief because that person has left the first impression that the advice that person gives is reliable and because they immediately believe it, they don’t think there is a need to try because the person who told them so has already done so. They think their advice is good, but they really don’t know because they haven’t actually tried and their advice is clearly flawed because you can clearly see others that actually have less than you who have done the very things they say can’t be done. They just haven’t heard about these people and base their beliefs on the people they think are most reliable, and rarely is it from the 3% and the figure 3% explains itself.

Now, and why are the people you think are reliable (usually parents, grandparents, etc…) do not give good advice even if they actually have experience?

Because their experiences have led them to having the wrong beliefs as well, irrational beliefs. It is still flawed because they probably associated every other way of doing things to become successful as painful because of their own attempts at it. Realize that there are many ways, perhaps infinite ways to become successful. If you just take a step back and look, you’d realize that they are not related and failing at one does not mean that the others are going to end up the same. These people think that all the ways will end up the same when it’s actually just because they have become afraid of experiencing the same pain or more pain. In reality, they just haven’t found what is right for them and they don’t realize that when they failed, they just eliminated one way that does not work and they’ve actually gotten closer to finding the way to success. However, they simply gave up and use their failures as a justification to the false belief [that it cannot be done] to avoid further pain. The pain was actually feedback to tell them that this way is not the right way, and if they had seen it with this perspective, they would have tried different ways until they eventually found success.

What these people don’t realize is that they are disagreeing because its against their beliefs, beliefs that landed them at where they are, and where they are isn’t a nice place to be at all.

The reasons they make up as to why success is hard to attain are merely reasons to comfort themselves of being in their miserable states. They don’t want to feel like their incompetent and make up reasons to justify why they are there and they blame external circumstances instead of taking responsibility for their own lives. Obviously, blaming other things for where they are at is easier but when they do this, they completely don’t try to even make any changes to get to where they only dream they want to be.

These people are usually unhappy, poor and selfish.

Unhappy because they are not getting what they want in terms of financial wealth, health and beautiful relationships.

Poor because they are subjected to paradigms, subconscious beliefs that money is bad or hard to get and thus, reject all opportunities that offer them the chance to get the money they long for even when it is right in front of them.

Selfish because they only live for themselves, because they only live to survive and no more. No one else benefits from their existence but them. It’s not their fault either, because they have nothing to give. They struggle so much to meet the needs that they have no time or energy to give to others. This is for another topic to go in-depth into another time; one that will unveil why these people are doing selfish things even when they actually want to help. It’s not their fault.

All these things are a result of what the people and events around them subjected them to as they grew up; so it’s not their fault either.

…and because they believe all the things and they fight so hard to get significance [that they lack from their lack of success], they impose their beliefs on others, hoping that you would accept it and if you did, you would have given them significance, one of the human needs. There are plenty of other ways to get significance, ways like giving a huge amount to charity, improving others’ lives or simply by showing love or respect to others.

Another thing you should take note of - older doesn’t mean wiser or right.

This is one belief that should be gotten rid of. You shouldn’t even be listening to your parents if they aren’t at where you want to be and aren’t at least even trying to get they where they dream of getting. Yes, I just said it; your parents. Your grandparents or your parents are the same as anyone else when it comes to giving opinion. Granted, they always want to give and teach you the best things, but what they think is best has gotten them to where they are now, and if they aren’t where you want to be, it’s probably not advice you should take because it won’t get you to where you want to be.

With all these things in play, this is why bad ideas spread and why it is hard for the 97% to get out of the rut.

…but you simply have to take a look, and realize that these people are unfit to give you advice because they are not where you want to be and that they stick to their old beliefs that has caused them to remain at their miserable states.

You can’t expect a car mechanic to give you advice on how to operate on a patient to fix a heart problem. It’s the same principle here. You can’t listen to someone who isn’t living a happy life for advice on how to live a happy and fulfilling life.

So, why not listen to the 3% who are successful instead?

Does this sound very logical to you now?

The masses are not right as you may believe. In fact, if you listen to the masses, you’re probably going to end up somewhere you don’t want to be.

I mean, if they 3% are where you want to be, they must have done something to be there - simply find out what they did and it’s almost definitely going to be better advice than any that comes from the 97% who are not successful.

This world is about results, and results are what is achieved when someone does something. The 3% probably did something that brought them to where they are now, and you’d want to know what that something is and then do it.

Think you cannot follow in their footsteps because they are ’superior’ in some way?

Well, here’s a truth you’ll like to hear:

The 3% are people with essentially the same physical abilities as you and if you’re an athletic person, you’re probably better than many of them, and you also have the brainpower that the 3% possess. Granted, some may have a higher IQ or superior brainpower, but that doesn’t matter. There are PLENTY of people who are considered average or perhaps even below average that are in the 3% because they did the things that brought them towards success. If you had the highest IQ in the world but didn’t know or didn’t come up with what to do to get to where you want to go, you wouldn’t get there.

If you read about all the stories of these successful people, many had less-than-ideal beginnings. Many were probably worse off than you are now. You probably have an internet connection since you are reading this, and that means you’re probably doing quite well since you can afford it.

Among these successful people, there’s one that started from having an income of $4000 a year and owed $6000 - that’s a negative amount of money earned, less than $0. The very same person was a high-school drop out and had a hardly desirable resume. Now, he’s a great teacher that travels around the world telling people how they can do the same and his life is dedicated to the study of how exactly and why people become successful so that he can pass this knowledge onto others. His name is Bob Proctor.

These successful people come from the most outrageous of beginnings - and you’re probably better off than a lot of them, so there’s no reason that you can’t do what they did.

Let’s say you saw a basket of apples where 9 out of 10 apples were rotten and you had to choose one to eat.

Assuming you know how a rotten apple looks like, you would obviously pick out the good apple and eat it, right?

It’s the same thing that applies here.

You have a whole pool of advice - probably a lot more from the 97% just like the 9 out of 10 rotten apples there are, and then there are those you have from the 3% who have succeeded and are at where you want to be.

Wouldn’t you choose the advice that came from the successful 3%?

It should seem obvious now, what may have been elusive to you earlier.

These successful people only became so wealthy because they did something good. Most, if not all of them are business people.

Remember, you are a consumer. You wouldn’t have bought what you have bought if the product didn’t contribute anything to your life. These successful people are people who bring you these products that improve your life and they have helped countless others - realize that you and these others gladly paid them for what they offered you. See how these people become successful?

If you didn’t like their products, they wouldn’t have become as successful as they are now.

They enhanced your life and deserve to be at where they are at now.

Successful people are good people and many, if not most times, a lot better than the unsuccessful people.

However, someone may already know how to become successful and even if the person may not be there yet, you can tell if it’s information that is at least good.

How?

The advice the person gives you would be encouraging and advice that will make you go for your dream and move towards the life that you desire. Most of the time, the advice would be from something they read, so it’s actually from the 3%.

…and take note of this point: Success doesn’t only mean financial success.

If someone is good at something and does very well at it, you can take advice from the person if you want to do what that person is good at doing - because he has succeeded at that particular thing.

As long as someone is at where you want to be in a certain area, you can take advice from that person for that particular area.

Fortunately for you, you can get all the information and knowledge you will ever need, in this age of the internet and where books from around the world can be found at a reasonable distance from where you live, bookstores. Heck, you can buy them from Amazon right at the comfort of your own home! This means that you can achieve just about anything you wish, and I think it’s truly anything.

There are plenty of places where you can get good advice and knowledge from these people - in books, home-study courses and actually free from the internet.

Here is one I’ll recommend to you - free material that can change your life and set you on a life of passion and one you look forward to living every single second.

  1. Amy Says:

You yourself imply that success equals making lots of money:
“The great discrepancy about this is that the people who usually say these things are probably not very successful themselves; and sadly, it’s at least 95% of the world population that thinks this way, consciously or subconsciously. In fact, the figure may be higher at about 97%, since I’ve heard that 3% of the world earns more or an equal amount of money than the other 97% combined. None of those people are people I particularly admire or respect. I am poor because I have consistently chosen education and personal growth over making money. I have had the experience of envious people telling me I couldn’t do things and I am doing those things. I am in medical school and have a life full of love and learning, yet I wouldn’t fall into your 3% and probably never will. There is far more to life than making money!

    Note to Amy from Jeremy:
I only used the 3% as a figure to show the figures in the financial world where people succeed financially. I spoke of listening to people who have achieved what you want to achieve - and if you want to achieve financial wealth, get advice from this people.

Also, I would like to state that money is important whether you like it or not; it’s how our world runs BUT… the true beauty in this is that money actually helps you contribute more and be a better person.

It magnifies your ability to do things. If you are a not financially wealthy loving person that cares for homeless and donates dollars to them every week, financial wealth will allow you to buy houses for them and give them even more. When you do a lot of good things with the money you have, you deserve to live a life of luxury yourself because you gave so much; having a lot money is actually a great thing and it is testament to how much you have contributed to others’ lives, especially when it comes to business. Bill Gates made the whole world work more efficiently with Windows and allowed us to progress faster and do so much more.

But you see, you don’t aim for money then do these things; you go for what you’re truly passionate about and realize that ANYTHING is possible. When that happens, magic happens because your passion will drive you so far to achieve so much that you’ll get all the financial wealth you’ll ever need and then do even bigger things that will get you more and it’s just an endless cycle. When you know that anything is possible, that’s where you aim to do great things, and the passion will drive you there.

You’ve already proven to yourself that anything is possible; but now you know how much money can do, I’m sure you’ll go far if you start accepting the fact that money will only make you a much better person and fully embrace it.

I hope you found this insightful, and I’ll be making blog posts expanding on these subjects soon. :)

What a load of generalizations and content-less empty answers.

And did you notice the irony that if someone took your advice, they’d be required to ignore it…because you don’t belong to these alleged ’successful’ 3%.

Start by defining what a successful person is, and then we’ll talk. Of course, motivational speakers live by selling their own success, which paradoxically doesn’t exist unless they sell it a lot. So I fully expect you be unable to define success.

  3. Jeremy Says:

    Response to Orri’s Comment:

    1. I have achieved so much in the last 3 months alone that I’m outright confident at saying what I’m saying right now.

Remember, if someone has succeeded at something, that person probably knows a way that will most probably and more often than not achieve the very same thing that he succeeded at.

    Here’s my definition of success:
Being able to live life on your own terms and doing what you want whenever you want to. In addition, it is living a fulfilled life where you constantly grow and advance - meaning you don’t stop and constantly achieve bigger goals, and this is what makes life so amazing. You always have something to live for and best of all, most, if not all of us have a deep desire to contribute to others and in our journey to success, many lives will be touched and impacted in a good way.

So, even if you are a billionaire but have no time to spend with your family and enjoying yourself, it’s not considered a success.

It doesn’t mean you have to be financially wealthy, but one thing is for sure; that you should have financial freedom. Different people have different levels of need for financial wealth depending on the lifestyle they truly desire. It’s no point aiming for $1 billion if you have no idea how to spend that $1 billion because then you’d realize you’d lose motivation and it’s only going to be a chore to go after it because of that very reason - you aren’t motivated because you don’t know what that $1 billion can give you, and the things that you truly want is not money, but what the money can get for you.

I believe success begins when you take the first step and do something that moves you towards your goals, dreams and aspirations; and then continue moving forward until you reach it, where you will get bigger dreams to contribute more to the world and create an even better life for yourself so you can contribute even more and so on…

Once you’ve filled yourself up with abundance in all areas, your goals shift into giving because you don’t need to take anymore, and that is where your relationships will start to prosper because you will be able to give so much without wanting or needing to get anything back, but you will, and that’s where the beauty lies. Notice I said ‘need’, but you’d always want to have more and you will because you’ll be giving so much.

    2. About successful people who sell their own success

Many of them started of doing something else. For one, Sam Crowley that I recommended is in real estate and that is where he earns most of his income (I’m quite sure since I work with him on his online business and it’s hardly able to support his current lifestyle). Helping others achieve their dream is simply what he chose to do with the freedom of time he got from the real estate; he is successful because he is able to do what he wants to do and what he aimed for - making everyday Saturday so he could spend more time with his family and living his life having the choice to do anything he wants, and he chose to devote a part of it to helping others achieve their dream just like he did. Note that he chose it.

However, the paradox you mention I believe is not paradoxical at all.

Having achieved the success they had selling their success is indeed a success in itself. If you look at it, they do the very same things that other people in other markets do to succeed. It’s just that it seems paradoxical; but their true passion lies in helping others succeed and I believe following your passion is the key. If you made them do something else, they may not do as well and may find it very hard to succeed. But who cares when they produce results?

The successful ones are the ones who produce results; and that’s what matters.

I hope this answered your questions. :)

    Jeremy

  4. Dave Origano Says:

    Hey Orri,

just wanted to make a small note here. What you’re saying is targeted towards ‘marketers’, speakers and those people in the ‘make money’ markets.

Lots of them only make money by selling their make money products to others, and that’s a bad thing. Though what you don’t see is the real 3% that actually make much more and don’t tell anyone about their secrets.

Just look at Larry Page for example, one of the owners of Google. He’s extremely rich, though never sold any ‘make money’ product in his life.

Well.. if you disclude Adsense and Adwords that is ;)

You don’t have to sell ‘your life’ to make money, but be heavily passioned about what you do. For some that is selling marketing services, for others it can be designing new high-tech gadgets.

    Just my 2c,

    -Dave
