Why You May Not Have Found Your Passion
January 15th, 2008
It just struck me.
If you don’t have a passion, if you don’t seem to have a passion, the passion that I spoke of with so much ZEST, what could it be?
Why you might not be able to find your passion from what you are doing right now…
…because what you are doing right now is probably what you think others think you should do, for significance. You are doing things that will make other people think that you should do to be things like ‘cool’ or ‘makes you you’ - yes, what ‘makes you you’ may have been defined by the people around you. As you do different things and find out the reactions to your actions, you slowly adapt and choose the one that fulfills your human needs - certainty, significance among others.
So, it’s not really you but what others think you should be. I mean, if they give your actions negative feedback, they probably don’t see it your way - and you feel like you need to change to ‘please them’. No, you didn’t have to, but you wanted the recognition.
Everybody wants people to have THEIR perspective - or at least most people.
That’s why arguments happen. People have conflicting ideas about what they think something should be like and never try to put themselves in the other’s shoes.
Most, or all people want or like others to think their way; perhaps it’s ego at play, and I think it is.
Oh, and why arguments are hard to resolve sometimes - one or both sides refuse to listen. If you don’t listen, there’s no way you can even consider or think about it.
What you actually do and maybe get a little good at is possibly not your passion at all.
It may just be something you think will give you significance if you do it well, and that’s all there is to it. You just feel the pleasure of the significance.
I believe passion will drive you to do things without the need to achieve those human needs.
It drives you to just do something just because you just LOVE it. You just get ENERGY whenever you do it.
I hope you will find yours soon, and if you already have, congratulations; for it’s something that is beyond words.
Life is a miracle. Live it like one.
